This is now fixed, with
$ uname -a
Linux blubug 2.6.28-7-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 9 15:42:34 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

xorg-server 2:1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5

and using pm-utils.

 status fixreleased
