Bug Description

Binary package hint: xnetcardconfig

xnetcardconfig depends on xsu, which has been superceded by several replacements. See http://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xsu/news/20040720T150036Z.html for an outdated discussion.

In the interest of removing xsu from the archive, this package should be updated.

Hi,

Yesterday, this package was discussed in #ubuntu-classroom,
and I was surprised that noone uploaded his patch, so here it goes ...

By the way, I also repacked the source package, to move the debian directory into patch,

Check my PPA for latest version :
https://launchpad.net/~rzr/+archive

Since It never entered debian, I plan to reshape it and put it in debian as well ...

Some things I noticed:
 - You drop Conflicts: dhcp-client
 - You don't preserve Maintainer: Benedikt Meurer <email address hidden> in XSBC-Original-Maintainer

Does "(gksu -D /usr/share/applications/xfld-xnetcardconfig.desktop -- "$0") >/dev/null 2>&1 || {" work alright?

Ok, even if it a custom built package from Benedikt and not a debian one
fixed in debdiff

== gksu ==
yet It works, why shouldnt it ?

- It seems like you did the patch from your new version to the old one, instead of from the old one to the new one.

- I don't think it's necessary to do any changes in CVS nor debian/CVS.

Hi, here is my patch for this bug.
In addition to what was done in #ubuntu-classroom Thu 21st Feb i checked the file xnetcardconfig.in and found that the script can reduced to:
  gksu "@PREFIX@/bin/xnetcardconfig.real" \
     -D /usr/share/applications/xfld-xnetcardconfig.desktop
  exit 0
This provides the same functionality.
I have tested it but should be reviewed.

not exactly, sudo execution is not possible this way

Are you sure it will install ? as shown above pump provides dhcp-client

I also informed the upstream author about this issue and patch.

It's possible, why not? ($ sudo xnetcardconfig)

You are right, this is the correction.
