Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-wacom

I previously installed Kubuntu 9.04 64-bit on a Fujitsu T4215 Tablet PC.

This has a wacom serial tablet built in.

I expected (or perhaps hoped) that the stylus pen/eraser would work out of the box. No such luck however.

After a while, I noticed that the eraser end of the pen is recognised, and acts as a stylus, as well as the eraser button working to transmit clicks. However, the pen end is still non-functional, as are the two buttons near the pen tip.

I made some posts here, and Favux has been very helpful in trying to help me through the issue, but the recommended I file something through launchpad

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1136848&highlight=victorhooi

I've also now updated to Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala), with the same behaviour (eraser end working only). Also, it also seems to sometimes work and sometimes not, although I can't pin this down/reproduce it accurately, so I'm not going to say too much on this.

I've attached the latest output from "xinput --list", "lshal" and my xorg.0.log file. The command "xsetwacom list" returns nothing.

I'm running ubuntu 9.04 on my fujitsu T4215. My pen only works intermittently as well. The only difference is that mine will toggle from nothing working, to just the eraser working, to everything working fine after every restart. Since everything is working right now I'll try to post the same logfiles maybe that will help.

I never had problems with my T4215 in 9.04. I am seeing this exact behavior in 9.10 however.

Same problem. (toshiba m750)
Everything worked fine in jaunty.
Tried downgrading the wacom and xserver-input-wacom to jaunty version - no effect.
Stylus is extremely slow and lags.

I report what may be the same bug.

I'll run these two commands:

sudo hal-set-property --udi /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_WACf004_serial_platform_0 --key info.product --string stylus
sudo hal-set-property --udi /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_WACf004_serial_platform_0_subdev --key info.product --string eraser

And then:

xsetwacom list

I expect to see both "stylus" and "eraser" listed, but I only see "eraser". In my case, the stylus does work initially, but when I rotate the tablet, the orientation of the stylus does not follow the screen rotation.

Thank you for reporting this issue with wacom-tools, we are migrating it to the new xf86-input-wacom package which has replaced it in the development version of Ubuntu.

This would be a good point for you to re-test this issue against the new package to see if is still occurring. If not, you can mark it as Fix Released in Launchpad. If it is still an issue in the current development release and you're the original reporter, please reply and attach a fresh Xorg.0.log.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

I still have this issue on my wife's T4215 which was originally installed with 9.10 (standard Ubuntu desktop amd64) and upgraded to 10.04 via 'update-manager -d' ... I'll post an Xorg.0.log when I get back to the house.

here is the lshal and xorg log from the wifes machine....it is exhibiting the same behavior as previously stated in other posts. The eraser will work but the pen end hasn't functioned nor do the pen buttons work.

I've tested this on my own fujitsu t4410, which is working fine now. Able to use pressure sensitive drawing and erasing using stylus and eraser devices in gimp. It did not use to work out of the box, so I think this got fixed within the past year or two.

Going to assume yours is fixed as well. If not, reopen or file a new bug report.
