Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release: 8.04

- Install vala via apt-get
- try compiling the vala simple example (or any vala program)
- I get this message:

 valac -o sample sample1.vala
Package gobject-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gobject-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gobject-2.0' found
error: pkg-config exited with status 256
Compilation failed: 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)

Apparently gobject-2.0 is required by vala and isn't being installed or configured.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in valac.

This can be solved by installing libglib2.0-dev. However, it would make sense to add it as a dependency. I'll forward this to Debian.
