Bug Description

Binary package hint: usplash

The messages that you can see during fsck through Usplash ("Press ESC to skip" and so on...) shows untranslated and can't be translated.

These messages must be localized in order to get a better user experience to non-English users.

I strongly agree with Ricardo, initscripts should be translatable. However, I never saw a Linux distro where those shell scripts have i18n capabilities, but it would be a great improvement if this was possible !

Not a bug in usplash. In fact it's not really a bug in sysvinit either, since init scripts are distributed amongst all packages. However, leaving the sysvinit task as a representative.

Since grub has now become translatable, this are the only English messages left which a user sees during the boot process. It would be great if someone could provide a fix/hack which would allow us to translate those as well.

summary: - fsck messages in Usplash can't be translated

Yes, as that bug is fixed, and bug #569365 (now in lucid-proposed) removes a bug that made the translations not show up, we can close this too. For the initscripts, I think we should have another bug for that, the original report was only about fsck messages on the graphical boot screen.
