Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I was running 8.10, which I installed from CD in December. I run very
many packages beyond the bare distribution.

I did update-manager -c -d to upgrade to 9.04beta. I had a good full backup.

The update manager downloaded everything, install much of it, but disappeared
without a trace nor error before completely finishing up.

The result was an unusable system.

I burned a 9.04beta CD and reinstalled from that, so I'm OK now, but
many people will want to use the upgrade procedure; I consider this a show
stopper.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Please send me the logs of the failed upgrade (in /var/log/dist-upgrade/*) . This way the problem can be diagnosed and dealt with. Please also check if there are crash files in /var/crash/ and if so, please add the output of "ls -l /var/crash/*" to this report.

This cannot be done: the system was dead and I had to reinstall.
