Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I tried to update from 7.10 to the new distribution (hardy beta) but got the following error message:

Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-security/Release Unable to find expected entry web/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/Release Unable to find expected entry web/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-updates/Release Unable to find expected entry web/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-backports/Release Unable to find expected entry web/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

Maybe this is due to the fact that I originally downloaded kubuntu in GB (the German version though) and am now in Germany, but it didn't work from GB either.

Most likely this happened because the ffox plugin finder dialog shipped section=web for some time.

I guess apturl should at least prevent addition of not existing sections. not sure if we need any automated cleanup to fix affected systems.
