Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-remix-default-settings

Hey

UNR lists various topic folders in Files & Folders but the concept of a Desktop folder doesn't make any sense in UNR since, well, the launcher is the desktop, right?

Thanks for considering,

Removing the Desktop folder makes even less sense given its history, familiarity and the importance of being able to switch to normal Desktop mode. Furthermore, in at least one rendition the Desktop folder was removed leaving people putting "Desktop type" stuff in their /home/<username> folders which was also inappropriate. If some UNR users choose to not use the Desktop folder, that it fine - they can not use it. But PLEASE don't even consider removing something virtually all users (even including users of other OSes) are expecting to be present.

controversial, no doubt. But probably warrants consideration if it can be done safely.

I came to the same realization the other day. One possible solution would be removing the Desktop bookmark. The folder would remain, but it woudn't be visible under Files & Folders by default. Then, possibly, the folder could be phased out in later Ubuntu Netbook Remix releases if a real solution is found.

There isn't really anything that can be done in ubuntu-netbook-default-settings, this has to be done in netbook-launcher.

affects: ubuntu-netbook-remix-default-settings (Ubuntu) → netbook-launcher (Ubuntu)

Now that we have the shared session between GNOME and UNE, one maybe still want to access easily to what was on the desktop in the other session, even if I just added the "home" folder as well.

Marking as invalid, do not hesitate to reopen the bug if you disagree with that.
