Bug Description

I observe that Dapper tuxpaint (1:0.9.15b-1ubuntu1) installed two .desktop files in /usr/share/gnome and /usr/share/applnk . From the Gnome desktop's Applications menu, I see one launcher inside Education, while another in Graphics.

Is this intentional? It sure did confuse me a bit right after dist-upgrading...

This is visible on my system as well. I propose that it be removed from the Education menu and left in the Graphics menu as it is a program for creating pictures.

this is a Main package so I'm going to assign it to the Edubuntu bug squad as that seems mor appropriate

There are 2 problems, mentioned in this bugreport:

1. The same tuxpaint.desktop is placed in 2 old, non-standart folders (/usr/share/applnk/Graphics/ and /usr/share/gnome/apps/Graphics/ ) instead of being in one folder, as described in freedesktop.org standard, folder - /usr/share/applications/

2. tuxpaint.desktop file has Education and Graphics in Categories line

First problem must be solved ASAP, as now tuxpaint isn't visible on freedesktop.org compliant desktop environments (like XFCE) menu, except KDE and GNOME.

About second problem I think it's not so important, as first and, I think, it be submitted to upstream.

I'm attaching a debdiff to fix both the bad installation paths by installing only 1 .desktop to /usr/share/applications/ and putting in Categories= Education; Art; . The current .desktop has no Categories entry, which is bad. I've verified that this patch builds and installs in gutsy. Oliver, can you please upload this for me?

tuxpaint (1:0.9.16-1ubuntu3) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Don't install .desktop to non-standard directories
  * Add Categories=Education; Art; to .desktop.

I've forwarded the fix to the desktop files upstream as no-one did.
