Bug Description

Binary package hint: transmission

Since Transmission is going to be installed by default in Hardy, the menu item should be more descriptive or it won't be immediately clear what the "Transmission" entry in the menu is for (is it a download manager? a ftp client? does it connect to gnutella or something since the tooltip says 'peer to peer' only?).

Also, this is what all the other menu entry names look like in the default install.

Or even "Transmission BitTorrent" works, I suppose.

Wow, very responsive upstream, will be in 1.10.

This will be in 1.10, rather than 1.02, to avoid breaking the po files until the next translation freeze.

Bittorrent is not something that many users will understand. I suggest "Transmission File Sharing".

It's unclear from this bug whether there is a fix committed in Ubuntu for this - the bug status says yes, but this is unexplained in the comments.

If the user doesn't know what Bittorrent is how will they find the torrents needed to use the application?

Er that comment was directed at Matthew East, I think the naming 'Transmission Bittorrent' is fine, just pointing out that if the user doesn't already know what Bittorrent is that they wouldn't have any use of the program anyway, so simplifying beyond that for naming is really pointless.

Generally speaking, I assume that a user might open an application and
read the help for it to discover how to use it. But I think they are
less likely to do that if the program has an unintelligible name than
if it sounds like something they might wish to use.

No big deal though.

That would be a fair argument and probably will be eventually, but right now transmission has no documentation/help at all, at least that I can see.

Gah, how did this fix slip through the release. We might want to SRU this, as we're already getting negative usability reports: http://contentconsumer.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/is-ubuntu-useable-enough-for-my-girlfriend/
