I would like a reaction from a developer on this matter. This is a grave and serious security risk.

Update Java please!

Sun's binary is generic, so isn't it possible to have a DEB package for all Ubuntu versions? At least for the most recent ones...

I work as a Java developer, so I also need an update on the JDK.

JRE:

Mozilla plugin:

Double-click the deb and it will install. First the JRE, then the plugin. Works fine in Hardy.

But all this is an emergency measure, that shouldn't be necessary....

In Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron, sun-java6-jre is still at version 1.6.0_07-b06. Sun has already released version 1.6.0_13, which contains several critical security bug fixes. This means, that in Hardy we're already four versions behind!

It's very important that we get this newest JRE version quickly in Hardy. When do we get it in the updates?

sun-java6 6u14 has been accepted into hardy-proposed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/382918

This bug was fixed in the package sun-java6 - 6-14-0ubuntu1.8.04
