Bug Description

Binary package hint: smstools

Ubuntu 7.04, smstools version 3.0.2-4.
After installation of the package owner of /var/run/smstools is root:root. This makes the creating of pid file impossible, because by default smsd is running as smsd:dialout.

A possible fix is attached to bug #221973 but that one is for 3.0.10-1 in hardy.

Both bug #221973 and this one is waiting for bug #224241 then all of then will probably be resolved.

Peter, are you wanting to fix this problem in 7.04? Is it the same problem as is in bug #331973 ? If so we can add another task there. This report seems like a duplicate of that bug.

I tried to reproduce this on Hardy but could not. I installed 3.0.10-1 (hardy). It was the first time I installed smstools. The owner of /var/run/smstools/ is smsd (the group also). There is a pid file created and start/stop/restart using the init.d script works also.

I can confirm what mouz reported.
Version 3.0.10-1 in hardy does not have this problem. The file permissions are correct.
