Segmentation Fault on start up

Bug Description

When I start up rhythmbox, I receive just a "Segmentation Fault (core dumped)" message on the command line.

I've looked in /var/crash/ but I see nothing relating to rhythmbox.

How do I proceed from here?

Thanks for your bug report. Please try to obtain a backtrace http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and attach the file to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

Could you use the support tracker to get apport working and send a bug using it? The backtrace has no debug informations and explaining what to install, how to get a correct backtrace etc on the thousand of crash bugs sent on launchpad is not optimal

I've now run rhythmbox with apport and made the following bug:

the other bug has no useful informations, what would be interesting is a crash report sent using apport

The other bug was sent using apport. What do you suggest I do?

use the support tracker to find somebody helping you to get apport working, it should create a .crash if your application is really crashing, or open a bug on apport

Rhythmbox doesn't provide me with any .crash files in /var/crash/ it just quits with "Segmentation Fault (Core Dumped)". When trying to manually invoke apport with rhythmbox it provided me with a chance to open a new bug, which is the other bug that is a duplicate of this one.

Do you suggest I open a bug on apport then?

Andrew, did you read what Sebastien told you? Please use the support tracker to figure it out why apport doesn't work for you and do not submit an apport bug, thanks.

This is my Apport crash report.

Magie, please do not attach .crash files to the reports, use apport to send it over instead, just double click on the file with nautilus. thanks.

I just managed to work out that my confiuration in gconf had gone bad.

I just reset my settings by running gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/rhythmbox

gconftool-2 worked well for me. Thanks for the solution, but how could this happen?
