Bug Description

Please backport qjackctl 0.3.6-1 from Maverick to Lucid in order to fix the
dreaded "port renames are ignored" bug
(https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qjackctl/+bug/490436) in the
latest LTS release.

In order to provide proof that it builds cleanly in Lucid, I've prepared a PPA
upload at: ppa:astraljava/lucid

Currently I'm waiting for mandatory three confirmations from
testers that the fix works.

 affects ubuntu/qjackctl

Hi there,

Could you please suggest applications to test this? The jack apps i use either don't allow port renaming, or require a restart, thus not allowing proper testing.

Thanks.

@Ronan,

Before testing, make sure you have a Lucid (10.04) install and that qjackctl-0.3.4-0ubuntu4 is installed (this is the version currently in Lucid).

Easy way to demonstrate the bug:
1. start jack using qjackctl
2. start ardour
3. create two tracks in ardour (these are considered as ports in qjackctl)
4. rename one of the tracks (ports) in ardour
5. using qjackctl Connections try to connect an input to both ports (tracks)

You will see that you can connect to the port (track) that was not renamed. You will NOT be able to connect to the renamed port (track). In fact, the Connections window in qjackctl will continue to show the original name for a renamed port (track). The Refresh button will NOT update the renamed port (track).

To test the fix:
1. add Janne's repository to your Sources
2. update qjackctl from qjackctl-0.3.4-0ubuntu4 to qjackctl-0.3.6-1ubuntu1~ppa1.
3. start jack using qjackctl
4. start ardour
5. create two tracks in ardour (these are considered as ports in qjackctl)
6. rename one of the tracks (ports) in ardour
7. using qjackctl Connections try to connect an input to both ports (tracks)

You should find that you can make connections both ports (tracks). Most likely the renamed port (track) will automatically update its name, otherwise the Refresh button will update it.

I hope this help.

I have test qjackctl-0.3.6-1ubuntu1~ppa1 from Janne's PPA and it fixes the bug on my fresh Lucid install.

I have also tested qjackctl-0.3.6-1ubuntu1~ppa1 from Janne's PPA, and it works on my machine.

Thanks for the help, Scott! I actually used Ardour, but misunderstood "port" for "application" (i thought you were trying to test the case of renaming "ardour").

Anyway : renaming is not immediately taken into account on my system, but refreshing works.

Tested on Ardour on a Lucid box with JACK2 from Falk's PPA (I ensured it used qjackctl from Janne's PPA).
