Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

ooimpress 2.2 on Feisty Fawn automatically plays media files (MPEG movies) insert onto slides automatically during a slide presentation, rather than waiting for the user to manually begin the media file. This appears to be a bug (according to the help/manual).

I may not be reading the manual where you were but it looks like it says it only has the controls during normal view mode (not slide show):

"
To play a movie or sound file in an Impress presentation
1.Open the slide that contains the movie or sound file.
2.Click the object icon for the movie or sound file on the slide.
3.Click Play on the Media Playback toolbar.
"

If you saw the manual mention somewhere else that it should have playback controls during slide show mode please let me know where in the manual and I will file a bug with OpenOffice upstream about the issue.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Not being able to manually control the start of media in presentation mode is one of the major shortcomings of OpenOffice in my day-to-day use of it.

I have to give scientific presentations that contain slides with movies and text. I would like to be able to circumvent the need to write a macro to launch an external player for each movie in my presentation when I click on an object.

Please, please consider the ability for users to click on an object in presentation mode to control the timing of a movie (And if something is done, why not do it well and allow for looping and pausing of the movie as well). From a programming perspective would it really be so hard to do? Thanks for your consideration!

Hi,

Do you have a macro/workaround for this issue? If so could you post it in the Ubuntu forums and put the link here?

Thanks,
CH

Unfortunately not. You can insert a macro for each movie to launch an external player, but for the manual insertion in OOimpress of movies I have not found a solution.

Hi, thanks for your comment. In fact I already knew of this approach, but it is MUCH more time-consuming then allowing direct interaction with the inserted media object on a slide. I do not want to make 20 individual movies for the 20 movies I am showing in my presentation. That is the reason why I initially commented on this bug,

Cheers.

20 individual movies should read 20 individual MACROS.... sorry

I agree - it should NOT require macros and is a major limitation in professional level presentations - this really needs to be fixed ASAP

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
