Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Hi,

The toolbars on openoffice are behaving erratically and do not appear to remember any settings. Example: if you change from drawing something. such as a box, then decide to type something - the toolbar for the formating disappear and reappear. This causes the whole screen to toggle backwards and forwards, which makes it very hard to read or actually use the tools. I am sure this could be classified as a feature - but really it is a bug.

I am using Ubuntu 7.10 / openoffice 2.3 on AMD64.

Let me know if you need any more information,
Thanks,

James

TESTCASE

1) Launch oodraw
2) Select the "Line" tool
3) Drag the "Line and Filling" (2nd toolbar from the top) to a new location.
4) Select the "Text" tool. The "Line and Filling" toolbar will hide and the "Text Formatting" toolbar will become visible. The "Text Formatting" toolbar will be in the default location instead of the same location as the "Line and Filling" toolbar. It appears to the user that the formatting toolbar has reset its position.
5) Select the "Line" tool again and the "Line and Filling" toolbar will reappear in the location it was dragged to. The user now thinks the toolbar is jumping around the screen erratically.

Just to clarify - the toolbars do not remember their position.

Example: if you put the formatting bar on the right hand side of the screen and then using the drawing tools - the formatting toolbar magically moves back to the top of the screen.

These are two different toolbars, one is "Line and Filling" and the other is "Text Formatting". I agree the behavior is confusing though because it appears that only one is ever shown and so they should share the same position on the screen and act as one toolbar.

I am using 2.3.0 for Ubuntu 64bit Gutsy and have the same problem. When I move the Formatting Toolbar the first time into the spreadsheet and want to dock it back it doesn't go into the second row. I need really help here as already quite some users have 'lost' their toolsbar that way.
This is urgent. Thx for any attention.

I tried this in Windows XP with the 2.3.0 version- no problem.

be4truth,

This is definitely an upstream issue, I tried using the official Linux 2.4.0~rc2 and it has the same issue as the Ubuntu version so it probably won't be fixed in time for Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy). Hopefully they will get it fixed in time for 3.0

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,
thx for your reply. I got the thing fixed by deleting the .openoffice2
file in the home directory. But that only works for users with default
settings.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
