Bug Description

Might be related to Bug #148162 but not sure :

I'm using gutsy updated and could reproduce the bug on three different computers :

1) install msttcorefonts
2) open a new OpenOffice document
3) write É
4) set this letter to be Arial : it works
5) set the letter to bold (Arial bold) it is displayed as "..." !!!

É exists in this font in bold (you can see it in gucharmap)

If you remove msttcorefonts it works (but then I guess Arial is replaced with another font).

To fix this issue I did :

rm -rf ~/.fontconfig/;sudo fc-cache -r -v

I don't know which one of these command fixed the issue, but I guess it's the first one (as now I'm not able to reproduce the problem even after removing msttcorefonts, recreating the cache, installing msttcorefonts).

Sorry this doesn't fix it... It's really strange :

If you open sample1 (which triggers the issue) then (while it's open) you open a new document type an É bold arial, it will show the bug

Then if you close both documents and just open a new document and type an É bold arial it won't show the bug !

"sample1" refers to my attachment named "document that triggers this bug"

I can reconfirm that removing msttcorefonts solve this issue too.

Oh, dear. Confirmed, confirmed. Ran into this as well using 8.01 Hardy with all the latest updates. Trying to move to Linux here at school and this probably won´t impress anyone :-(

Opening the attached document produces a lot of "^":s instead of "ö":s - but if I FIRST start with a new document and from there open the attatched one everything looks normal!!
