Bug Description

Binary package hint: openhpi

1. Availability: amd64, armel, i386, ia64, powerpc, sparc

2. Rationale: The package helps meet https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/server-lucid-cluster-stack blueprint goal. Needed binary packages are openhpid, libopenhpi2 and libopenhpi-dev.

3. Security: No CVEs

4. QA: 2 minor bugs in Debian, no bugs in Ubuntu. Upstream is active (http://www.openhpi.org/)

5. UI standards: none

6. Dependencies: all in main

7. Standards: no lintian warnings. Package is packaged with debhelper and doesn't have patches.

8. Maintenance: simple package, syncs should be enough (there were no Ubuntu changes in package history)

9. Background information: this package is one of dependencies for new cluster stack in Ubuntu.

I'm the Debian OpenHPI maintainer. I don't know what this bug requests, but here are my Debian plans, if it helps the Ubuntu folks:

Currently, 2.14.0 is in Debian testing. Upstream is at 2.14.1. I plan to update Debian unstable to 2.14.1 in the next couple of weeks. If Debian then freezes, 2.14.1 is most likely the next Debian stable release version.

Bryan,

this bug is called a "main inclusion request", and asks for promoting openhpi into the set of officially supported (security, major bug fixes, etc) set. If you are interested, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess

The packages look fine, but I'm unsure on the rationale here. If openhpi is to become an officially supported feature in lucid, why would we only have the library in main? Shouldn't we support the actual programs as well? Does the server team commit to looking after the package in an Ubuntu/release management/testing context?

cluster-glue is a package that provides stonith interface for the cluster stack. One of supported methods for shooting other nodes in heads in IBM BladeCenter is SNMP communication. This SNMP interface is provided by snmp_bc module provided by libopenhpi2.

Problem is that since 2.6 version of openhpi, daemon is required to be running for any module to work.

Since most of the cluster-glue users wouldn't use snmp_bc, I would recommend adding START=yes/no to /etc/default/openhpid and checking that in init script. I could do that, while package is still in universe.

Bryan what are your thoughts on providing openhpid's default file, and having it disabled by default?

I forgot to mention, but now it's obvious; we would need openhpid binary
in main too.

Martin, yes, ubuntu-server team is committed to watch after openhpi if rest of the cluster stack MIRs get accepted. Support for OpenHPI is a feature that comes with that cluster stack.

Do you still need this? We won't promote it until it gets seeded or depended on (and appears in component-mismatches)

Same as heartbeat, it's a dependency for cluster-glue:
