I have the same problem, with identical backtrace in Xorg.log, but on different configuration:

Kubuntu 9.10 x86_64
ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series
Composition turned on (KWin desktop effects)

On my system, the bug occurs only in one place:

1. New email received in Kmail
2. I try to make a selection of some text in received email, X crashes completely, even Ctrl-Alt-Fn is not functional.

Note: in 99% of cases, email where crash happened is lost, so take care if you are testing.

It does not happens always, but enough frequently that it is annoying. I even try to never start selection on a newly received email in kmail.

Also confirms this problem (at least the exact same message in the syslog).
Machine: HP 8730w Mobile Workstation.
Ubuntu 10.04 (updated today) / x86_64
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9000 @ 2.00GHz
RAM: 8GB DDR2
GPU: NVIDIA GPU Quadro FX 2700M (G94GL) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)

Please let me know whether you anything more than the below to help narrowing down the problem.

Steps to duplicate:
1. Start
2. Standby (sleep button or GUI)
3. Resume (power button) => never wakes up completely, following error message looping in the syslog:
