Same on IBM T23 - live cd. The same live cd works in the safe graphics mode, though.

Could somebody please try this with the Lucid Alpha 3 live CD? There is a new fallback mechanism that should give a usable netbook-launcher for people who don't have 3D acceleration.

@Thiago Branco Meurer Did you try this with lucid alpha 3? or you are facing this in Karmic?

The launcher is loaded and running on my Dell Mini 10v, but performance is very, very slow and I just discovered thousands and thousands of these segfault errors in /var/log/messages. UNR Karmic.

Note: it's possible that the launcher segfaulting isn't the one being used on my console X session; I have VNC running as a different user on this machine.

I have quite a lot of system updates to install, including one for xorg itself. Letting those install, rebooting again, and I'll reinvestigate and post back here.

Installed all available updates, including a kernel upgrade and an xorg upgrade. Stlll getting 1 netbook-launcher segfault at 404 error 4 in libGL.so.1.2 every second in /var/log/messages.

VNC was it - I killed the following process:

me 1516 0.9 0.5 10656 5556 ? S 18:49 0:01 Xvnc :1 -desktop me-netbook:1 (me) -auth /home/me/.Xauthority -geometry 800x600 -depth 16 rfbwait 30000 -rfbauth /home/me/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5901 -pn -extension XFIXES

and the segfaults in /var/log/messages stopped.

So the next question is - how do I run a VNC session on this box WITHOUT it invoking netbook-launcher and segfaulting it every second? That session WAS working when I Xrdp'ed into the box, incidentally...

Jim Salter (jrssnet) wrote :

Final note: the real problem is that I was running that VNC session as ***the same user logged in at the console*** - netbook-launcher segfaults if more than one instance of it is running ***as the same user***.

I created a separate user account on the machine for the VNC session (which is started from rc.local, independent of the console session), restarted, and all remains fine - no segfaults in /var/log/messages.
