Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

when adding music to my ipod shuffle I discovered if rhythmbox manages to fill all the free space on the ipod, the disk usage numbers suddenly default to all zeros. so the property's menu will read disk free space as 0 and used space as 0. this also shows the same way in nautilus's property's menu, so it seams to be a bug in nautilus. I also found that if I deleted a single song to free up 1mb the disk usage amounts would return to normal and read the correct amount used and volume size. so far i have only tested my ipod shuffle, but it may effect all volumes.

im currently running karmic 9.10 with current updates. I used the report a problem app in rhythmbox to file this bug, because it happen while using rhythmbox. i don't know what package to select to put it down as an nautilus bug also, so if any mods want to change the package, please do.

yeah, here is a screen shot of the nautilus properties menus. I'm not 100% sure but it seems to happen only when the free space falls below 1mb.

this is what shows in rhythmbox, it seems to just be pulling the info from nautilus. (don't quote me on that)

If I delete a single song (in this case about 2mb) the properties returns to normal. and displays the correct amounts.

this bug does seem to effect any volume, i was able to duplicate this with one of my flash drives. though doing so seems to have caused my system some other error, and now my system will not empty the trash from the flash drive or unmount it. im probably going to have to reformat the flash drive to fix the problem.

could you try to describe the bug clearly again? does it depends of the ipod use? is your issue a nautilus or rhythmbox one?

I first ran across this bug while using rhythmbox with my ipod shuffle, but it seems to be a nautilus bug that effects all volumes. i was able to cause this bug to happen on one of my flash drives yesterday. as far as i know both the ipod shuffle and the flash drive use the FAT file system. so it may be limited to just FAT file systems. this bug seems to happen when you fill all available space on a partition. to cause this on a flash drive i just had to use all available kilobytes on the flash drive.

This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME . Thanks in advance!
