Thanks for your report! Your internet connection seems to time out on the SourceForge servers, which might not be related to the mstcorefonts package as such. Can you download - for example - the file http://surfnet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/corefonts/andale32.exe manually (through Firefox, wget or so)?

Msttcorefonts downloads the fonts from the Sourceforge servers but seems to ignore the proxy settings (according to bug #56880). If you are behind a proxy this bug is a duplicate of that one. Can you confirm this?

I had the same problem with 7.10 msttcorefonts and sourceforge. Seems it was a dns lookup problem in my Ubuntu system. After following these instructions (for edit I used sudo gedit) I downloaded the fonts no problems. : -

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=574180
_____________
Edit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
Add this line at the end of the file:

prepend domain-name-servers xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;

replace the xxx with your DNS's IP addresses. I have two of them.
After rebooting, this IP's are added to resolv.conf on reboot, and everything works fine.

I had a problem with installation msttcorefonts 2.2 trying to connect to empty proxy : "Error parsing proxy URL http://:8080/: Invalid host name".
I don't connect through proxy but use router.
This worked for my (comment line 57 - "export http_proxy" in /var/lib/dpkg/info/msttcorefonts.postinst):

      sudo sed -e 's/export\ http_proxy/#export\ http_proxy/' -i.old /var/lib/dpkg/info/msttcorefonts.postinst
      sudo apt-get install -f

Don't know if it works for proxy connections. If not run this and it will restore original file:

      sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/msttcorefonts.postinst.old /var/lib/dpkg/info/msttcorefonts.postinst

I'm closing this report because it was due to a dns lookup failure (Resolving easynews.dl.sourceforge.net... failed: Connection timed out. ) and was confirmed by the other reporters.

Pixo, you problem is not related to this report. If it's still an issue then fill a new report but as said Roel it's very close to bug 56880.

Thanks for your time and don't hesitate to submit any new bug.
