Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

Clean install of gutsy from live cd.
I installed mplayer from gutsy repos (including codecs).
When using PCM audio output, if i move the volume of mplayer , either from the "play bar" or using side buttons of the mouse, sound gets muted and i get an error message:

alsa-control error seting left channel, Argument invalide
 Ok

("Argument invalide" means "Invalid argument" -_-)

When selecting either Alsa, oss or esd in the audio preferences dialog, i get the same error.

I actually always used alsa, so to have it "work" i need to select "Master" in the Mixer channel tab (Configure driver button in audio options menu).
Of course this way mplayer moves the master voulume, so it can be quite annoying to being able to adjust volume independtly of "global" volume.

Just to note that applications like vlc and audacious media player work without problem (meaning, both use Alsa PCM Mixer, well at least audacious).

Tell me how i can give you more information, i'll try to provide.

ps:
lspci |grep audio
00:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value

Ok, recompiled mplayer from svn: same result.
Same error with Alsa PCM, where master is actually working.

I actually noticed that i also had a bug with a vant window navigator plugin: volume control applet.

Ok, i fixed the problem by recompiling Mplayer, using these options:

./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-gui --disable-arts --disable-smb --enable-sdl --enable-x11 --enable-xv --enable-menu --enable-largefiles --win32codecsdir=/usr/lib/win32

Had to install a bunch of dev files to get dependencies i needed; i probably missed some optons buts its fonctional.

Anyway, setting audio output to Alsa pcm now works.

Recompiling Mplayer from svn solves the problem. There may be a problem with mplayer package.
