Bug Description

Binary package hint: mkvtoolnix

Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

mkvtoolnix:
  Installed: 2.0.2-1.1
  Candidate: 2.0.2-1.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.0.2-1.1 0
        500 ftp://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de intrepid/universe Packages
        500 ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de intrepid/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The intrepid release of mkvtoolnix (and the gui wrapper too) doesn't recognize any kind of subtitle (srt, ...) if i try to merge files with it. I checked several files and then same files with the hardy release and there they got merged correctly.

Confirmed.
Ogmrip is enable to encode video with subtitles because of this.
Rebuilding the package locally solve the problem.

The package has external rdepends so this should be done post-release via SRU.

Just to add some details about this for the SRU.

- Actual mkvtoolnix package have some binaries incompatibilities, many reported on Debian (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=471049, http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=476879, or bugs report on the package : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?package=mkvtoolnix).
- The only rdepends is ogmrip, and this bug make all encoding with subtitles impossible.
- I'm only request a binNMU. Debian make the same for Lenny (actual version is mkvtoolnix_2.0.2-1.1+b1).

Thanks it works also for me. But it is a pity that this is the only way.
Sorry for the rant.

Problem solved with going up to 2.5.2 which was published in the last 24 hours. As 2.5.1 has a big problem with setting the locales go straight for the current one.

Also, if it is possible to bump the development version from 2.4 to 2.5 or the future distribution will have again a terribly old version.

The bug report is wrongly stated.

There is NOT a problem with ALL subtitles. If you bother to read the matroska documentation or just the error message given by mkvtoolnix you find out that only vosub, srt and ssa/ass are supported right now. Never tried with vosub at this version (never will as I just went up to the latest version). But ssa/ass are accepted. Only srt is not recognised in this 2.0.2 version. The problem with ssa/ass is that the players I have tested (vlc, mplayer, gmplayer, totem) seem unable to show them.
