gnome locks up, does not respond to kbd or mouse

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-core

After update from 6.10 to 704 via package manager I experience this problem from time to time.

The mouse cursor still moves but the buttons are dead
The only solution is to quit the session with ctrl-alt-bksp

I have this same problem, it has just started to happen.
only in my case the keyboard goes out as well, so i basically have to resort to hard resetting.

so far i have not found any similarities in instances that it has gone out.
one time i was trying to empty my trash, and another i was trying to change a track in the music program Amarok

I am facing similar problems as well. I have a limited keyboard functionality, mouse pointer moves but does not respond to any clicks. Sometimes by right clicking several times at several different places on the screen, i get back the functionality only for sometime. No specific "similarity" in scenarios when reproducing!
But yes, most of the times firefox was running. But even after closing firefox, this lock up re-appeared.

I am using Ubuntu 7.10 with latest updates as of today.
