Bug Description

I have the screensaver set to go blank and lock the screen after X minutes. After X minutes have past, the screen does not go blank and activity on the desktop is still displayed. However, when I move the mouse, it DOES blank and prompts for login information.

I'm dual-headed, using the laptop's LCD and an external monitor on the Intel 945 GM chipset.

Thank you for the bug report.

This could possibly be a manifestation of this upstream bug:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27108

I'm not going to link to the upstream bug until we're sure. In the meantime, I'll try to get a test kernel built with the two patches known to fix the problem, and see if they solve it for you.

Your test case is valuable, as the upstream bug is random and not easily reproduceable.

The two patches for this don't apply cleanly to Lucid and will require additional work and/or patches from uptream, so I won't have a test kernel today. I'll try to get one soon, but I'll be busy at UDS next week.

I noticed today that the screensaver does eventually go black. If I get a chance, I'll set the time to something really short and try to reproduce several times.

Same issue here with Lynx, but it doesn't lock to the password until the keyboard or mouse is moved, so the screen is viewable, but if you try to do anything then it locks.

using external monitor only on a dell E5400...

These patches are in the current lucid proposed stable update and should be released as a LUCID SRU kernel any day.
