 Genius EYE 312 Webcam
I am using a Genius EYE 312 with Kernel 2.6.31-16 Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit

Here is my lsusb output

Code:

sges@sges-desktop:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 058f:6377 Alcor Micro Corp. Multimedia Card Reader
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046d:c517 Logitech, Inc. LX710 Cordless Desktop Laser
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 093a:2622 Pixart Imaging, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

The webcam is ID 093a:2622 Pixart Imaging, Inc.

When I use Cheese the picture is upside down! Looks like a driver problem.

So, the same problem here, and some more:
splitted screen with wrong colours

Affects me as well, I am using karmic...you can make it almost work by manually compiling the gspca driver, in the end you get the image, but unfortunately it will be flipped and the framerate and image quality will be very poor.

I am sure this can be fixed somehow.

Not a cheese bug, this is a linux kernel bug. Marking bug as confirmed from the comments.

@tamalet: Yours seems a slightly different webcam model , it would be preferable if you filed a separate bug in "linux" package

@Takmadeus: You havent mentioned your webcam model if
~$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 093a:2622 Pixart Imaging, Inc.
Same lsusb , then yours it the same bug too

affects: cheese (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
Changed in linux (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Confirmed

Same problem on an Asus K60IJ laptop. There are numerous posts about this and many laptops affected by it. Windows had the same problem but it was fixed there by using updated Chacony drivers. There is a fix described in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8925031#post8925031, but that's only a stopgap. A kernel repair is really needed.

@Nostradamnit - As you have a different webcam model the solution to your bug is likely to be different than the solution to this bug. Can you please add the info from comment #11 in this bug to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cheese/+bug/561200

@Everyone_else - Does this bug still occur in Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat"?

Good news! My image is no longer upside down in Meerkat, on an Asus K60IJ laptop. :=)) Saves me the agony and risk of disassembling my laptop lid, which might not have solved the problem anyway!!!

I spoke a little too quickly. The image is correctly oriented in cheesd and XawTV -- but not, I just discovered, in Skype. Does anyone know why the Skype behavior should be different?
