Bug Description

Recently I have tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop travelmate 2423. However this installation procedure does not work fine.

At the beginning, I want to install it directly from the CD. This does not work. After selecting the item " installation", the computer is frozen and showed " Loading please waiting". I have waited one day for this. But it did not start the installation.

So I decided to install Ubuntu 8.10 on my computer first. There is no problem to install ubuntu 8.10. After that I made an update from Ubuntu 8.10 to Ubuntu 9.04. However, this update made the computer to start abnormally. It is frozen and showed " Loading please waiting".

To address this problem, I press "Esc" after start, choosing "kernel 2.6.27-15" rather than "Kernel 2.6.28-16" .Then the computer works fine.

My questions:
1. Why I can not install Ubuntu 9.04 directly?
2. Why Kernel 2.6.28-16 blocks the start of the computer?

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 465104

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

I wonder if this might be a duplicate of bug 475028. However, we need the information Brian requested in comment #2 above in order to verify.
