Bug Description

2.6.30 introduced a regression in prism chipsets. Upstream has released a fix in 2.6.32. I hear that karmic is going to be released with 2.6.31 so it would be nice to see a backport of the fix included.

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14000 has the details.

Ok, i have pulled back the commit pointed out above to the karmic kernel and built test kerenls. If those of you affected by this issue could test this kernel and report back here. The kernels can be found at the url below:

I currently don't have a Wifi network to test with. Not sure when that will change, may be as far as two months out.

Andy, did you disapprove or cherry-pick?

We are at a point in the karmic cycle where it is hard to get something in which is not tested to fix a known issue. So we really need to get some testing on this combination before it can go further.

I'm marking this Fix Release for Lucid as the patch is in 2.6.32. As for Karmic, the best approach would be to get the patch submitted and accepted into the upstream stable 2.6.31.y tree. We'll then get the patch automatically when we rebase Karmic with upstream stable. Thanks.

I have asked upstream to include the patch in the 2.6.31 branch. Let's see if that happens.

Andy, thank you for providing the patched package. My apologies for the delay in testing. I was away and without the necessary environment to trigger this bug. I'm happy to say that the initial problem of oogles of lines of the form "Virtual device wifi0 asks to queue packet!" are indeed gone now. But I have other warnings now in syslog with the frequency of several per second when wifi connection is poor and loaded.

Tried two more kernels. Daily mainline has a regression and does not seem to support my wifi card anymore at all (I became aware of this after it was suggested to me to install linux-backports-modules-karmic). The current lucid kernel works the same as Andy's (original problem is fixed, but lots of warnings about decryptions failing)
