Daniel,
I subscribed Dawn (and her friend Ian) to this bug report because her laptop had this issue. I'm told they have tried the apport-collect command you specified and it reported "no additional information collected". Is this because Dereck also ran the same command on similar hardware, meaning Dawn doesn't need to? Or does Dawn need to also gather information on her machine?
Just to clarify she's running jaunty on the laptop and has no sound. I booted karmic off a USB stick and also had no sound.
Thanks.

I found a solution here: http://
as toshiba satellite a135-s2386 have the same sound hardware this will work
here the solution if for some reason the site is down:
go to the terminal and:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
then put this at the bottom:
options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=8 model=3stack
after that kill pulseaudio with this:
killall pulseaudio
after that restart pulse audio:
sudo alsa force-reload
and finally do aplay -l should have something like this:
adamtheo@
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
i guess this may help a lot of people here

I made a post that comment 26's solution restored my sound perfectly.
I was then asked to run ubuntu-bug again in comment 28. Should I unmute the devices and rerun ubuntu-bug for you?
Now that there is a workaround for the problem, perhaps it should be included in a future update to enable sound on other laptops with this hardware?

almost willing to bet fix all sound issues in karmic, unless hardware completely doesnt support it, like SIS graphics
software conflict, this should fix it
since this is a microsoft, i mean software conflict problem, you should be able to use this method on all karmic install no matter what your hardware is. if not, i would suggest backing up your info and starting from the top. again tho, you shouldnt have to. any pakages you already have shouldnt affect the script either, or your install. restores all sound including system sounds. also stops freezing issues that happened when adjusting audio settings.
THIS METHOD CLEARS OUT PULSE COMPLETELY BUT DOES FIX THE SOUND. I TESTED THE SCRIPT ON A FRESH INSTALL EVERYTHING WORKS PERFECT AFTER SUDO NAUTILUS. KEEP READING
sudo apt-get remove libsdl1.
includes audacious music player, vlc , and ubuntu restricted extras(minus pulse updates :D ).
VVVV VVVVV
sudo aptitude install libdns53 libdns53 linux-headers-
java will pop up
hit tab enter, tab enter to select yes
this is a BIG script, it will take some time....
so how bout those canucks.... :D
