[regression] v4l2 for module pwc with webcam Philips 740 doesn't work

Bug Description

when using cheese to record video / take picture; the pictures are all green, cheese uses v4l2.
Cheese use hal to know if cheese should use v4l or v4l2 based on what report the driver.
Accessing with v4l works fine.

Cheese was working fine 2 weeks ago, but I don't know what it was using at this time.

same behaviour on Philips SPC900NC. Also ekiga returns all green image. Skype works. It is a regression because it worked fine for me 1-2 months ago, in intrepid alpha something

Same behavior here with Logitech Quickcam pro 4000 (046d:08b2). Green screen in skype and cheese, but vlc can display video just fine (v4l2://). Initially, Ekiga could also display video, until I tried changing a video setting and it crashed. Now, Ekiga crashes on every open when it accesses camera (green led comes on, program closes). This camera was working 100% a week ago. Running Intrepid beta with all updates. Camera uses pwc driver.

Only green here on up to date Intrepid... VLC works but is slow... Cheese, xawtv both only show green. This is with a custom 2.6.28-rc2 (2.6.28-rc2-t23-200810310041, last number is date/time of git pull).

same here: skype and cheese paint green, but camorama got it right. also logitech quickcam pro 4000 and pwc driver.

i just tried the stuff mentioned on Bug #260918:
so i first installed https://edge.launchpad.net/%7Elool/+archive/+files/libv4l-0_0.5.2-1~dooz1_i386.deb
and tried LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so & LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so in front of the commands

beside that "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so camorama" don't work, there are no changes: skype & cheese see green, can someone confirm this?

btw: i used standard settings for the webcam, so no changes via setpwc

i also can't solve this with setting V4L in gstreamer-properties instead of V4L2.

probably we should remove V4L2 from the pwc driver, as it doesn't seem to be working.
