Bug Description

http://archives.free.net.ph/message/20071218.141510.76447862.en.html ff. present a series of patches to the Linux cifs driver to enable DFS support, which is the last major significant regression (that I know of) in the cifs driver vs. the old, deprecated smbfs driver.

http://archives.free.net.ph/message/20080110.202840.d90c205e.en.html presents a timeline for including these DFS changes upstream; unfortunately they are not expected to be merged until 2.6.25.

Since the Debian/Ubuntu samba packages have already dropped userspace support for the smbfs driver as a solution for resolving a large number of longstanding smbfs-specific bugs, I think it would be good to have cifs DFS support in hardy, so I would ask that you consider backporting the patches (once they've been vetted by Steve French and are on their way for the 2.6.25 merge) to hardy's 2.6.24.

If this is unacceptable, this bug should probably be reassigned to the samba package, to consider reverting the smbfs deprecation for hardy. But that would be somewhat unfortunate to have to support for 5 years in an LTS, since smbfs is already long-deprecated upstream.

It's a little late to be including this now. Way too much to consider and test. Since it will get into 2.6.25 (or at least 2.6.26) we'll have it for intrepid anyway.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.

DFS is used by our company, now I can not access windows share using smbmount. Please add support to DFS share.

Thanks.
