Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-image-
New stock Dell Dimension C521, X2-3800+, 1GB RAM, onboard nVidia. Installing feisty 64-bit daily live image from 2007-03-09. There are no problems during installation or boot, except this error message:
[ 14.343159] SMP alternatives: switching to UP code
[ 14.343320] ACPI: Core revision 20060707
[ 14.388700] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[ 14.568921] Using local APIC timer interrupts.
[ 14.618728] result 12526129
[ 14.618730] Detected 12.526 MHz APIC timer.
[ 14.622601] SMP alternatives: switching to SMP code
The error message doesn't seem to have any negative effects.
There are a number of other similar bugs in Launchpad already, but I don't think this is a dupe. This a brand new stock Dell, and the latest Feisty daily, so this issue will probably come up for a lot of people.
It's a harmless message, the kernel detected the problem and worked around it.
