Bug Description

While testing Intrepid daily build 20080723 on amd64, I noticed:

Jul 23 13:07:51 perseus klogd: [ 1297.945917] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:03:00.0[A] -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17
Jul 23 13:07:51 perseus klogd: [ 1297.946194] PM: Writing back config space on device 0000:03:00.0 at offset 1 (was 100102, writing 40100106)
Jul 23 13:07:51 perseus firmware_helper[10100]: main: error loading '/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode' for device '/class/firmware/0000:03:00.0' with driver 'iwl4965'
Jul 23 13:07:51 perseus klogd: [ 1297.946748] firmware: requesting iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode
Jul 23 13:07:51 perseus klogd: [ 1297.950524] iwl4965: iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2
Jul 23 13:07:51 perseus klogd: [ 1297.950532] iwl4965: Could not read microcode: -2
Jul 23 13:07:51 perseus klogd: [ 1297.950740] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:03:00.0 disabled
Jul 23 13:07:53 perseus NetworkManager: <WARN> nm_device_802_11_wireless_scan(): (wlan0): could not trigger wireless scan: Network is down

I checked i386 as well:

mdz@perseus:~$ dpkg -c linux-restricted-modules-2.6.26-4-generic_2.6.26-4.8_i386.deb | grep iwl

The firmware is in the source package:

mdz@perseus:~/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.26$ find . -name 'iwl*'
./ubuntu-firmware/iwlwifi
./ubuntu-firmware/iwlwifi/iwlwifi-4965.ucode
./ubuntu-firmware/iwlwifi/iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode
./ubuntu-firmware/iwlwifi/iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode
./ubuntu-firmware/iwlwifi/iwlwifi-3945.ucode

but doesn't seem to be installed anywhere.

This is fixed in the latest upload of linux-restricted-modules; the lrm packages now depend on linux-restricted-modules-common, which provides the firmware images.

New ISOs will be made available for intrepid alpha-3 to include this update.

Changed in linux-restricted-modules:
milestone: none → intrepid-alpha-3
status: New → Fix Released
