Bug Description

Binary package hint: xfdesktop4

Hi,

I attached a screenshot of my desktop. I set the desktop font size to 10 and then to 12 and the strangely the firefox menu font was growing to a maybe 14. On the screenshot you see desktop icons, synaptic and firefox with the context menu left. The font size is way to large and annoying e.g. when you fill out forms.
I don't want to set the desktop font size to 10 again.
Thanks

Thank you for your bug report. Do you still have this issue with an up-to-date Xubuntu Feisty ?

Yes I do more or less,
because I found some way to compensate. I use nautilus as file manager and set the font there on a 12 so it looks like a 10 on the xfce. Then I changed the xfce System Font to 10 and the font in Firefox shrinked to nearly the nautilus desktop size. So it is still a bit larger but not as bad as it was on my screenshot.
Thanks for your interest
Dan

Thanks, the first time, where did you modify the font size ?

Hi,
I set it the first time in gnome (or better used the standard font size), because I installed xfce later.
Afterwards I set it in xfce.

Ok, I can't reproduce this on Xubuntu Feisty. I'm leaving this as new until someone can confirm.

I have this same issue in the latest Hardy. It appears that I can fix it by switching to the open nvidia driver, however, I prefer the official binary one, and would love it if someone could take a look into this.

Ok I can confirm this bug with the latest Hardy and Firefox 3 beta 3. It seems to come from the nvidia driver.

Thanks, changing affected package then (I can't reproduce this issue in hardy with the -intel driver).

I can confirm that bug in Kubuntu-KDE4 (Hardy), it came when installing the proprietary nvidia-driver.

With Ubuntu 8.04.1 the problem seems fixed to me. The font sizes are the same.

I have the same problem in Firefox menus.

I don NOT have the problem in OpenOffice.

Forcing Display to 96 DPI did NOT solve the problem.

And I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.1.

Thank you for reporting this issue about a driver from the
linux-restricted-modules package. lrm-2.4.24 was shipped with Ubuntu
8.04 which reached end-of-life for desktop support on May 12th, 2011.

For that reason, this bug report is being closed at this time. I'm
marking it wontfix because what you describe is probably a valid issue,
but there are no plans to work on lrm 2.4.24 bugs further.

The issue may be resolved in a newer version. If not, aside from filing
a new bug report, another angle may be to file it directly with the
driver vendor.
