Same problem here, it looks like a dependency error, or some sort of circular dependency problem to me.

In Synaptic, when I mark language-pack-gnome-en for upgrade, I get the following error message:

language-pack-gnome-en:
Depends: language-pack-gnome-en-base (>=1:10.04+20100422) but 1:10.04+20100421 is to be installed
Depends: language-pack-en-base (>=1:10.04+20100422) but 1:10.04+20100421 is to be installed

When I mark language-pack-gnome-en-base for upgrade, it asks to remove language-pack-gnome-en, and then I get the following error message:

language-pack-gnome-en-base:
Depends: language-pack-gnome-en but it is not going to be installed

same problem for the dutch language pack after a fresh install of 10.04
if I go from system-administration-language suport and try to install, I get an error "fix packages first"

My problem all of a sudden dissapeared after the upgrade this morning, althoud the upgrade did not mention anything of this issue...
