Bug Description

Binary package hint: kflickr

There is a working KDE4 port of kflickr (not sure if it's final or in svn trunk only), and it was working fine for me when I used it in gentoo linux;) Please package it.

Check out my PPA:

I build it for karmic. Let me know if you really want it for jaunty, I can then copy it there...

Peter,

You should really update the existing package in Karmic.

https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kflickr

I would suggest following this guide to update the package

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Recipes/PackageUpdate

And then follow this guide to have your update sponsored into Ubuntu

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess

Best regards
Charlie

removed "needs packaging" tag as the kflickr package is already in Ubuntu.

Sure, I'll follow those steps... I just didn't have time to update/checkout those things as I concentrated in making a fast karmic build...

I was also asked to add a link to the orig.tar.gz. I have added the watch file in the debian/ and that should be now correct answer. Nevertheless, here is also the link to the latest version:

My PPA has fresh snapshots of the development version and can be found here:

I would very much like to see this better track the latest release, better then it has been. I am able to help out where needed and have also poked the Debian maintainer as they have also fallen behind and getting them to stay more current should make the job in Ubuntu easier.

Thanks for your work Peter, this will help kflickr show its best face to the Ubuntu community.

For clarity, TundraMan/asselsm is the upstream author.

I've tidied up the packaging from asselsm including making the version number in line with the packaging for KDE 3, and put it in my PPA.

https://edge.launchpad.net/~jr/+archive/ppa

asselsm: if you're happy for this to go into the main Ubuntu archive I can upload it.

The version number of the package or of the application? I would prefer not to have the application version number change since the SourceForge and other sites would not have this so folks reporting bugs could possibly get confused as to what version to report the bug against, I prefer to only have one version number in the wild, per release, to be honest. Yes I have moved to a date based versioning when I ported the app to KDE4 but since I nor the app is part of KDE, I figure this is my prerogative and much prefer date based versions over the old major.minor versioning.

So if we are simply talking about the package version I guess it is entirely up to you although I would say there are no gains to be made by not matching the application version. If you are modifying the app version I would disagree with this since as I point out this will just lead to confusion when mapping to my upstream releases.

So, TundraMan and Jonathan Riddell, what do we do with this bug? If you include it in the Archive, can we then close it?

Thanks...
