Bug Description
Binary package hint: inkscape
When drawing new objects in inkscape, the objects appear invisible and the opacity cannot be changed
Steps to reproduce:
Open a new inkscape document
Select the rectangle or ellipse tool
Draw a shape
Notice that the shape is not visible
Attempt to adjust the opacity of the shape using the fill and stroke dialog
Notice no change
Workaround:
Using the XML editor (Ctrl+Shift+X) while the invisible object is selected, it is possible to modify the opacity: value and then click set. After this the new object can be edited as normal.

opacity ≠ transparency: did you verify that the alpha channel in the stroke and fill dialog is not set to '0'?
