Bug Description

Binary package hint: gvfs

With Ubuntu 10.04 I was always able to connect to an SMB mountpoint which is served by a netdrive (FRITZ!Box with USB Device attached) Its location is //fritz.box/fritz.nas/name-of-device.
Now, with 10.10 all I get when trying to connect is CPU load going up with a process called "gvfsd-smb" using almost 100% CPU, but nothing happens. When I kill this process, a dialog informs me that the connection failed...

Upstream says it's due to the recent gconf changes to use gdbus and similar to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=628889, it should be fixed this week and for GNOME 2.32 tarballs

Is there a way to downgrade gconf (without taking out half the system) until the fix is released?

I learned that if you mount the share via command line first you can browse as normal. This kinda sucks but it's a workaround until they fix it I guess.

Confirm here. This problem existed in Karmic and some other Ubuntu distros as well (can't remember which ones). Is it a regression?

Fix #11 as embodied in patches as of 2010-09-12 also fix it for me. And the lessening of cpu smoke is noticable (that is, the fact that the CPU doesn't go nuts anymore makes everything else a bit better).
