Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

When you open the save-as dialogue in gedit, the focus appears to be in the filename input-field, as the filename is highlited. However when you start typing the focus is in the "folder-overview" field, and you get a little box at the bottom right where your typing goes.

Ubuntu 8.04
gedit 2.22.1-0ubuntu1

Since this already occured in evince (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/194382), maybe this could be a problem of some other gtk2-apps too.

Unconfirming.

I can't reproduce this behavior on Ubuntu hardy.
I tried with the following combinations :
- named and unnamed files
- many tabs and only one with text file in it or with empty documents
- file in local hard disk and files in samba shares

In any case, the filename is always highligted and the keyboard focus is on it.
When I type, the highlighted part of the file name disappears and typed characters replace it.

Furthermore https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/194382 is announced fixed in Hardy.

Reopening, and confirming, in Intrepid. It's highly annoying. You have to do a specific step to reproduce it - click save as, then click on one of the favorite folders (eg Pictures) at the bottom on the left.

From then on, when you type, your letters are entered into a really stupid search field among your favorites (even though all are visible on the screen), sometimes causing you to save to the wrong folder (and with the wrong filename)

Changed in gtk+2.0:
status: Invalid → Confirmed
