Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You have reported a crash that actually happened in the libavcodec or libavformat library. In order to be able to actually fix this bug, we must be able to:

1. Reproduce it;
2. Check if it happens with the latest version; and
3. Understand where it actually crashes.

You can help with the first point by attaching an example file to this bug report. Please note that a proper attachment is preferred over a link to some remote site. Remote sites that are password protected or otherwise restricted (services like rapidshare.com) are absolutely not acceptable. If you're file is too large, try to reproduce with the first few MB only. See http://ffmpeg.org/bugreports.html section "Submitting Sample Media" for guidelines.

Just updated to gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg (0.10.6.2-1) ... , but same result. Tested on a 1Go mkv file.

When is 0.10.6.2 supposed to land in repos? I updates to 0.10.6.2-1 just an hour ago or so.

here is the smallest thing i could find. Not mkv, but causes nautilus to crash too.

I still have the same problem, too .mp4 and several .flv files are also not playable.

I checked out the video codecs and found out that all files, no matter if they were a .mp4 .mkv .flv, used the h264 video codec. I got this from the information ffmpeg gave me.

I added an .flv video as attachment, but it should do as well.

those files don't crash on jaunty there. do you get the issue using ffplay too?

could you try if the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.6.2 update in jaunty
fixes your issue?

Well, i dont understand.

First, this bug, from my point of view has nothing to do with ffmpeg: nautilus crashes, and still crashes now after the update, and a reboot.

I reported this bug under Nautilus, it has been moved to gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg which has been patched...but i still get the exact same behaviour. And the bug is now closed.

Should i reopen the exact same bug using apport by retriggering it, this bug being 100% reproducable?

the stacktrace is clear, nautilus crashes due to totem trying to get informations on the video to add those to the nautilus dialog, the update fixed the issue for me that's why I closed the bug, could you copy the command line log if you run totem there and trigger the crash?

Under totem-xine I can play the files, but when I tried to open the properties menu in nautilus, it still crashes.
