Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-gmail-notifier

'gnome-gmail-notifier' cannot be installed because it depends on the non-existing package 'libsoup2.2-8'. Lucid has got 'libsoup2.4-1' and 'gnome-gmail-notifier' should be rebuilt against that package.

If interested i added libsoup2.2-8 to my lucid and got it to work.

No libsoup 2.4-1 stayed and just installed 2.2-8 just experimenting and it worked i have used it since alpha2 hope this helps really good gmail checker simple and clean to use.

How did you install the older version?

If I type in sudo apt-get install libsoup2.2-8 I get:

Package libsoup2.2-8 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libsoup2.2-8 has no installation candidate

Got it. Download the deb package from: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/i386/libsoup2.2-8/2.2.105-4ubuntu1

Hope you got it to work as i did here is where i got my deb from same thing this has the i386 & amd64 http://ns2.canonical.com/karmic/libsoup2.2-8

Same problem here: when I try to install it using Ubuntu Software Center I see an error dialog showing the message "Package dependencies cannot be resolved"

Using apt-get from command line I get the following message:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  gnome-gmail-notifier: Depends: libsoup2.2-8 (>= 2.2.98) but it is not
installable

this dependency issue is fixed in the latest version of the notifier, 0.10.1, which relies on libsoup-2.4 rather than -2.2...

I am still using gnome-gmail-notifier -0.9.4 have had no problems with it just waiting for the upgrade in synaptic package manager.

I have updated the package to the upstream 0.10.1 version and an attaching the .diff.gz as requested in #ubuntu-motu
