I'm running ubuntu 10.04 64bit and the addon is disabled in firefox, saying that it is not compatible with firefox 3.6

Should be easily fixable, since Gears can be installed directly from http://gears.google.com/ in Lucid with no problem at all.

Did you try to install gears from the archive in Lucid?

sudo apt-get install xul-ext-gears

Hi!

Yes, I tried that. But after installation firefox doesn't start anymore. The symbol stays for a couple of seconds and nothing happens. After killing the package, firefox works fine again - without gears...

You're probably experiencing bug 518422. There should be a fix soon.

Still no good. I've installed the package gears and its dependencies, but GMail offlineimap does not work and claims to require Gears installation still. Upon installing gears as a Firefox plugin, I get:

"Google Gears" could not be installed because it is not compatible with your Firefox build type (Linux_x86-gcc3). Please contact the author of this item about the problem.

still no gears functionality!
