Bug Description

I'm not sure which package this belongs to: python-wxgtk2.6 or libwxgtk2.6-0 (or something else), but it appears in the following programs: gvr, drpython, spe.

When text is highlighted and an attempt is made to drag the text to another window, the mouse cursor gets stuck in the "drag and drop mode". Sometimes keyboard input still works, and you can use Alt-f keys to get to a drop down menu and make the cursor change back to normal. Other times keyboard input is lost and restarting X is the only solution.

My students are using GvR and drpython and accidentally make this happen several times each day.

Can you test on dapper and see if you can reproduce this bug ?

Jeffrey, this was six months ago. Can you confirm with latest dapper release if this is still a bug? Thank you.

I haven't seen the problem since soon after I submitted the bug report. Please mark it fixed (or am I supposed to do that?)

Thanks!

This problem exists on Galeon in Edgy. To reproduce:

1. open Galeon, followed by the bookmarks editor
2. try to drag a link from the grab handle next to the URL bar over to the bookmarks editor

Most of the time, the mouse cursor will lock itself into 'drag and drop' mode, and will refuse to release. Most keyboard input does not work. All I am able to do is to switch to another tty with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and from there kill Galeon. After I return to X, my cursor is working.

Galeon has been replaced by Epiphany, so it isn't developped anymore. Do you have this issue with the latest version of Epiphany ? Thank you.

I can't reproduce this in Epiphany, but it still exists in Galeon. Galeon is not dead (yet), it is just in maintenance mode. They still release bugfix and Mozilla compatibility releases from time to time.

Confirming that this affects Epiphany-webkit 2.29.2 in Ubuntu Lucid. It happens quite often. (it was nearly non-existant with epiphany-gecko, one year ago)

Happens to me when using Empathy 2.30.1 on Lucid... it's really killing me :( if u click by mistake and drag (often happens on touchpad...) the mouse stays in the 'dragging mode' and the keyboard dies...

Ctrl+F_ works sometimes - when that happens i can "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart"

But then i lose what i was doing :/ The compiz shortcuts still work before doing that. Nothing else does.

Other times that dies completely and i have to just hold the power button :'(

Happy to provide more info if needed.

I'm closing this bug since the epiphany/webkit part has already been reported as bug #461424 and fixed, as Jouni already pointed out.
