"Loading" mouse pointer's hotspot is off

As this work is from Jimmac it would be best to either file a bug upstream or talk to him directly

I think we should revert to the old theme. DMZ is far from pixel perfect right now, and it's not just the hotspot that is off - it's the actual drawings.

I should clarify that they are actually off by subpixel amounts, which is very noticable and not fixable by changing the hotspots.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Jeff, this is one of the /easiest/ bugs of them all to test yourself as it happens in the default installation. Please stop going round closing "old" bugs without any effort on your own half to check whether they are still valid!

Alexander: Incomplete does not mean it is closed. Incomplete simply means more information. Requesting more information and marking Incomplete is standard practice for old bugs.

In addition, 7.10(Gutsy) reached End Of Life April 18th of 2009. Unless you can show that this issue still occurs in a later version of Ubuntu, this bug is Invalid. From what I've seen, this issue does not exist.

Jeff did not close this bug but rather marked it Incomplete for lack of activity. I will be closing it because the distribution the was reported in is not longer valid.

I will repeat again: Ubuntu 7.10 is End Of Life.

This means it is no longer supported. Unless this bug exists in a later release of Ubuntu which I have verified myself that it does not, then this bug is Invalid. Invalid is the only appropriate status for this bug. There are no developers who will do work on this. Their focus is on active distributions.

If you are still using Gutsy, you are strongly encouraged to an active release. This means at minimum, you need to be running 8.04 for this bug to be looked at again. It will still need to be reproduced.

Furthermore, you reported this bug over two months before Gutsy was released. This leads me to believe that the warning about things breaking applies to you as well.

There is a reason for this warning. Again, you should upgrade to at a minimum 8.04. I would strongly suggest moving up to 9.04 to reduce your need for future updates.

I was talking with some other people who feel this may have been misinterpreted.

Somewhere along the line the package name got mixed up. "The new cursor theme" in Gutsy was actually in a package called dmz-cursor-theme.

I spoke to Jimmac 2 years ago when we started using DMZ as the cursor theme in Gutsy and he made it clear to me that pixel precision was not important to him. I went to the effort of going through the source SVG and identified clearly that the positioning of the cursor in question ("left_ptr_watch" I believe), is significantly misaligned with the pixel grid.

Please read the links you have been provided. This bug is Invalid. It occurs for you in a distribution that has reached the end of it's life. This means that it is no longer supported. This bug has been verified to have been fixed by myself and others in Jaunty. If you choose to continue using Gutsy, you will receive no support from the community. Because you have provided no additional information that was asked, there is nothing we can do.

You should not mark this as confirmed. It IS NOT confirmed. It has been proven resolved in later versions.

If you choose to not upgrade, this problem is yours alone, not ours.

IF you do upgrade to a later version. You can reopen a new bug on this. I would encourage you to open a new bug about the new distribution and leave this closed.

I'll confirm that the pointer location is moving, but I think the bug might be elsewhere.

Can you tell me if this issue is still occurring for you now that 9.10 has reached Beta? If it is, could you please try to reproduce this using a new/clean/unmodifed Firefox profile?

I can't get Firefox to even show me the mouse+throbber cursor anymore.
That's not a fix, though.
