There's nothing wrong with that - the DVD includes both desktop and server functionality, and it's by design that you see server tasks there. If you scroll down you should find the desktop task there too.

Indeed, and I beg your pardon. I am blaming it on being quite tired at this point it time (not that it helps much).

Still, there are some points to be made to the positioning of the items.

1. The single option preselected is the Desktop -- which is not visible when the task selection opens. This sounds counter intuitive: preselections should be clearly visible at start.
2. due to (1) one can select a server-type install, and not notice the desktop being preselected -- and end up having to format & reinstall.

Changed in debian-installer (Ubuntu):
importance: Critical → Undecided
status: Invalid → New
summary: - Lucid-dvd-amd6.iso: installation via d-i shows Server selection
+ Lucid-dvd-amd6.iso: installation via d-i does not show preselected
+ desktop option

I think that the change in bug 540167 should help with this by removing
a number of tasks from that multiselect list.

Still, if desktop is the single preselected option, we should try to guarantee it will always appear -- like moving it to first option. In this way, even if we increase the selection menu again, it will not be moved down off the visual range.

Also, most of user installations will be for desktop. It stands to reason putting desktop in the first place.

I don't think I want to apply this kind of policy decision to the DVD.
I would rather just make sure it all fits.
