Bug Description

Binary package hint: computer-janitor

Pretend you're a new user. The titles of each section aren't clear enough. In fact, the entire program isn't clear on what it's supposed to do.

Unused what? That doesn't make sense, because Google Chrome and Skype appear there and I use those every day.
Recommended what? Recommended applications to install? To download? Recommend what I should feed my cat?
Optimize what? Defragment? Run a virus scan? Clear my browsing history?

That's right. If CJ stays this way it might as well be removed.

Computer Janitor devs mention that a lot of problems have been fixed in version 2.0.
It is waiting for a feature freeze exception , these problem might have been fixed already.

Unfortunately, we did not get an exception for Lucid, however it will land in Maverick and is available in my PPA. I should be uploading a newer version by tomorrow.

I'm using version 2.0.1 on Maverick, and it does not seem solved to me:

The only button says "Do selected tasks".
Which tasks? There are two columns, Packages & Other. What should the user understand ? What will this button do with those two lists? There is absolutely no mention of any task here.

There should be a main title explaining what are those two lists and the button should have a clearer meaning.

Something like :

"List of packages & files to remove"
with a complementary info like : "please review these items and uncheck the ones you want to keep".

and "Remove these items"

That should be a lot clearer for the user. Currently, I don't see a newbie pressing the button, as he doesn't know what will happen.

Hi François,

Would you open a new bug for this? We have until August 26's user interface freeze to try to get some improvements into Maverick. I'll try to enlist some help from our design team, but I think it would be better to start a new bug on the issue.

Thanks!
