Guest session and any other session can't be started if compiz is enabled

Bug Description

When I installed intrepid alpha 6, compiz was enabled by default and I could run a guest session. With recent updates (last update I think 29 september), if I launch a second session - e.g. using the guest menu entry, it does not start. If I disable desktop effects, then it works. However, if I start X using "X :1" from a console it of course works.

I attach the X server logs, the output from "lspci -vvn", and the contents of /var/log/gdm.

that's not a gdm issue

I don't really have an X log.

I can also add that I don't think two X session with compiz running can be done on my video card so this is likely the cause.

The bug is again there, disabling compiz makes guest session work fine otherwise it won't start. Probably this problem comes up at random and is not 100% reproducible.

This is in essence a bug in the graphics driver. In fact I had the same problem earlier, but it was fixed with a compiz workaround. See bug 269509 for details.

Can you please do "glxinfo > /tmp/primary.txt" in your normal working session, then start a guest session, let it settle for a minute or two, and then type blindly:

  * Alt-F2
  * glxinfo > /tmp/guest.txt
  * Enter
  * Control-Alt-Backspace to kill the guest session

Then please attach /tmp/primary.txt and /tmp/guest.txt here.

X seems to start now with intrepid up-to-date. I can see the orange background and can move the mouse pointer. However, the keyboard is completely locked (not even ctrl+alt+fn or ctrl+alt+backspace) and I had to hard-poweroff my machine. So I don't know if this is still the same bug.

Closing due to lack of response to Martins request. Please re-open if this bug can be reproduced in the latest Ubuntu (9.04)
