Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-screensaver.

Nick thanks for the info. But I'm not actually sure is it the screen saver causing the issue. I think it is just the visible cue to a different issue which is why I didn't add the screensaver package to the report :)

I can confirm this bug on my system. Right after darkening the screen it turns on again.
Intrepid installed with updates until October 5th 2008. Compiz is activated, no manual changes from myself.

I can confirm this too, it seems to be only happening when the screensaver kicks in by itself, not on screen lock or manual activation.

Changed in compiz:
importance: Undecided → Medium
milestone: none → ubuntu-8.10
status: New → Triaged

Please see if this is not a duplicate of bug 159263.

Try the solution described there and see if it works for you. If yes, then this is a duplicate.

Yes, unchecking the "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows" option seems to have resolved the non-working screensaver for me with Ubuntu 8.10 and Intel gfx. But a true fix would be preferable to having to uncheck this option.
