Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

having inserted a blank CD the option "leave the disk open" is grayed out, so after burning the CD will be fixed (no further multisession possible). Using a multisession CD, further multisession is offered, but the former contents of the CD are grayed out after having imported and trying to burn ends in error messages.
I use intrepid on a ACER TravelMate 3304 WxMi with MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-850S (Removable: Yes, External: Yes).

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10

 LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: brasero
Uname: Linux 2.6.27-7-generic i686

this debug text appears, when I try to append data to a multisession disk, which was burnt on the windows partition of my acer Laptop with the burn program installed by acer. Because of the problem described I could not yet burn multisession CDs with brasero. See brasero-session.log

I am experiencing the same behavior. Until today, I have been able to create multisession discs under Intrepid with Brasero. Now the open in greyed out as described above. I know the problem is not the drive because I just created a multisession disc under Windows XP using Nero 7.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing the same bug since 0.8.2. In the 0.9.1 version is this bug still unsolved. (Ubuntu 8.10.; i386)
I can say this bug has really not low priority for me;)
Though ... I like brasero at all.

Hoping to move this on from "incomplete" status, I can confirm that:

With Ubuntu 8.04.2, Brasero 0.7.1 the option "Leave the disc open to add other files later" is available and it does what it says.

With Ubuntu 8.10, Brasero 0.8.2 the same option is greyed out.

Both with the non-64 bit version, running on AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+.

It's important to me and I've reverted to 8.04.2!

1. My equipment is the same as before. Now after upgrade from intrepid to jaunty brasero multisession works fine with CDs

2. except of multisession-Data CDs, which had been burnt on Windows systems before. When I try to add new data files, a warning appears: "It's not recommended to add new audio files to a multisession CD/DVD. Already burnt files will be hidden" (translated from german). This is exactly, what brasero does after pressing the continue button.

3. When I insert a blank DVD, now the option "leave the disk open" is grayed out (that was not the case unter Intrepid). but I didn't try burning DVDs under neither Intrepid nor Jaunty because of the general problems I had with brasero.

Like Eckhard I've upgraded to Jaunty (actually via an install of prerelease version and subsequent updates) and can confirm that CDs work fine. I can't speak for DVDs since I don't burn these.

The conclusion is that anyone having problems with Brasero/Intrepid should upgrade to Jaunty.

I upgrade to Jaunty yesterday and was able to burn new files to a multi-session DVD (twice). As Richard wrote, it appears that this problem has been solved.

I never encountered this problem before today (admittedly, I'd never even attempted a multisession burn with Brasero). As of now, however, it is greyed out when I try to create one.

On Jaunty, I have Brasero 2.26.1.
For a Data CD, this option (and also the 2 under) is still grey. I want to uncheck it, but it is not possible.
You can look at the print screen in attachment.

I don't understand why it is grey. I need to close the session in order that my DVD can be read by other drivers.

I've experienced this problem ever since brasero was first included in ubuntu by default. That's why I have to use K3b... A shame, really... :)

We need a brasero debug log of the recent one with 2.26.1 with the leave disk open not working, may somebody experiencing the issue could get one? please run brasero as: brasero --brasero-media-debug --debug &> brasero-debug.txt perform the operation to reproduce the bug and attach that resulting file to the report, after that I'll send the report upstream with the information and thanks for the screenshots clarifying the issue.

My equipment is the same as before. Now, after upgrade from jaunty (9.4) to karmic (9.10 on ext3) brasero multisession works fine with CDs and DVDs. When I insert a blank DVD, now the option "leave the disk open" is no longer grayed out and I succeeded in adding files to a mulitisession-DVD, that had been started for ist's first session with brasero.

Unable to burn multisession-DVD by using a blank DVD+R and DVD+RW (plus); concerns Ubuntu Karmic Koala:

When I use a DVD-R or DVD-RW (minus) and want to burn a data-DVD Brasero offers the option to "Leave the disc open to add other files later". That's OK!

When I use a DVD+R or DVD+RW (plus) instead, Brasero does not (!) offer the option to burn a multisession data-DVD.

I tested with blank DVDs from Sony, Verbatim and Platinum.

Eckhard von Roenn-Hass (eckhard-vrh) wrote :

I didn't try DVD (plus) like sma. I only use DVD-R in Karmic ext3. So I can't contribute to this Problem.

But I still have another Problem. When I want to add a new session, after import all folders and files of former sessions are greyed out, so that they cannot be deleted, moved or renamed. It's only possible to delete, move or rename new ones, as long as they are noch yet burnt as latest session to the DVD.
